19/01/2022 Sommeliers Choice Awards are now becoming more rewarding. Sommeliers Choice Awards awards are now officially recognized on Wine-Searcher in the prolific list of medal-winning wines from around the world.

The Sommeliers Choice Awards provide renowned on-premise buyers and top sommeliers a valuable benchmark for understanding which wines would make a compelling addition to a wine list. These awards were first given out in 2019 with a Double Gold, Gold, Silver, and Bronze medal along with special awards. Medals will be awarded to those wines that meet very specific judging criteria, with a goal of identifying wines that should become additions to restaurant wine lists. Wines are judged by Food Parability, Typicity, Value, Quality, and Package. The formula used to allot points at the Sommeliers Choice Award is:

F (Food Parability Score) + T (Typicity Score) + Q (Quality Score) + Value Score (V) + Package Score (P) = Sommeliers Choice Awards Final Score.

Two questions drive the Sommeliers Choice Award: “Would we stock this wine? And Would the consumer order a second glass of this wine?” It is these questions that set this award apart from the broad range of wine awards around the world. This “by the trade, for the trade” award, focuses on finding the right fit between on-premise buyers and wine enthusiasts. It is therefore a celebratory moment for the Sommeliers Choice Award to be included in the reputed curation of global awards on Wine-Searcher. Winners of previous and upcoming editions of the Sommeliers Choice Award will now have the award, score, and medal listed on their Wine-Searcher listing.

Wine-Searcher is an encyclopedia of wine regions, grape varieties and wine producers. It is a web search engine enabling users to locate the price and availability of a given wine, whiskey, spirit or beer globally, and be directed to a business selling the alcoholic beverage. As of March 2021, Wine-Searcher had 12.5 million wine, beer and spirit listings from around 23,000 active stores and businesses, across 130 countries. The website and its associated apps attract 5.2 million active users each month; in 2020 64 million users made more than 255 million searches to compare prices.
