Educating Sommeliers Worldwide.
By Beverage Trade Network
Beneath Beaujolais offers a soil-first perspective of the region accompanied by an in-depth, analytical tasting. The understanding of the unique terroir of Beaujolais has reached new levels with the completion of the Sigales soil study in 2017. This project spanned ten years, involved thousands of soil samples, and confirmed winegrowers' hypothesis that Beaujolais might be the most geodiverse wine region in the world. Powered by an evolved and interactive guide of Beaujolais' mosaic of soil, this unique seminar explores the region plot-by-plot while tasting through an eye-opening lineup of wines. #BeaujolaisWines
The session will be hosted by Greg Van Wagner and Fernando Beteta, MS. If you have not yet secured your visitor tickets, it's time to get your tickets and plan your USATT day. Here are more details about the speakers.
Greg Van Wagner found his passion for wine and hospitality after joining a Boulder cycling team and relocating to Colorado in 2006. His journey led him to work at renowned establishments such as Frasca Food & Wine, Oak at Fourteenth in Boulder, and Element 47 at the Little Nell in Aspen. He went on to become the Wine Director at Jimmy’s Restaurant in Aspen, overseeing a thriving wine program with over 1000 selections. He now continues his career as the Wine Director of Parc Aspen, leveraging his expertise as an Advanced Sommelier. Alongside his career, Greg's love for exploration takes him to wine and spirits regions worldwide, culminating in the creation of SommGeo, a tool to share his knowledge and experiences with US wine professionals through an intersection with the leading national trade network, SommFoundation.
Fernando Beteta, a Master Sommelier known for his humble demeanor, began his career in the hospitality industry after studying hotel management in Europe and Thailand. He discovered his passion for wine while working as a restaurant manager at The Dining Room Ritz-Carlton in Chicago, eventually becoming a Master Sommelier in six years. Beteta has held prestigious positions, including Wine Director of NoMI at the Park Hyatt Chicago, where he oversaw a cellar of over 10,000 bottles. He has been recognized for his talents, winning awards such as Best Young Sommelier Midwest and America’s Best New Sommelier. Beteta co-founded Tenzing Wine & Spirits and is now a partner in High Road Wine & Spirits, continuing to embody the sommelier lifestyle as a traveler and industry observer.
